What is Mental Toughness and Why is it Necessary?

For the past couple of years, I was given the opportunity to teach and coach a great deal of players and one thing that I can share to you without any reservations is that the best players were all mentally tough. This concept is just hard to explain until you witness it yourself, on the other hand, it is obvious when you see a certain athlete who has it. And to make my point clearer, not all of the famous and prominent athletes are mentally tough. And not all of the players in a league are mentally tough and there are even a whole heap of players who were not able to enter any huge leagues and are mentally tough. It is not just about the capability, I was able to work with a whole heap of prominent athletes who did not have an inkling about being mentally tough and were able to unfold it once they are placed in a great pressure. They can execute so well if there is nothing on the line, on the other hand, if the game is pretty much equal, they have a great tendency to fail.

On the other hand, I was also able to observe a great deal of players who have average skills but then again are mentally tough and were able to execute in ways that no one thought they could do. A key blunt, a clutch hit as well as a remarkable defensive play that sojourn a rally, the mentally tough players were able to do a job well done. In actual fact, the larger the pressure that is given to these players who are mentally tough, then the better they tend to execute during competitions.

One thing that I was able to understand with experience is that mental toughness is not something you get in your DNA, but then again, it is something that you develop over time due to constant exposure to different adverse situations. Take into account that preparation for mental toughness would begin at a young age. Parents can play a vital role to start the process of training mentally toughness, on the other hand, they will be needing assistance as time goes on. Having a disciplined educational system that has great classroom rules as well as high expectation and coaches or trainers who are tough but fair with positive mindsets are crucial to developing the child in the mental area whether they are an athlete or not.

And this is one of the many reasons why it is essential for all of the kids to be included in a balanced and coordinated extracurricular activities at their young age.
